Culinary Medicine Roundtable: School Lunch Program

 

Attendee: Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Miguel Ángel López 

Overview: As part of a roundtable panel discussion on the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service’s National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Dr. López presented on determinants to participating in the school lunch program and applying for free and reduced-price meals. Following the presentation, the panel took questions from the audience and discussed opportunities to improve the implementation of NSLP so that all students enrolled in a public school have consistent access to safe and nutritious meals. 

Main takeaways and highlights: Dr. López shared, "I was excited to listen to the other panel members present on NSLP, including the history of school lunches and how we can innovate and better implement the program moving forward to improve our nation’s children's food access and nutritional health.”
