Feeding Northeast Florida
Feeding Northeast Florida is the regional Feeding America food bank serving 12 counties across Northeast Florida, from Nassau County on the Atlantic to Levy County on the Gulf. Their mission is to use food as a catalyst for improving lives and communities, and their vision is to ensure nutritious food for all. Feeding Northeast Florida recognizes that addressing hunger involves tackling deeper, systemic issues contributing to poverty.
They serve diverse communities, including urban centers, tourist areas and agricultural regions, with populations as varied as African American, Latinx, Caucasian, Asian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European groups.
Funded Program
Feeding Northeast Florida’s nutrition programs range from SNAP-Ed nutrition education and policy initiatives to a healthy pantry network providing condition-specific foods and a prescriptive nutrition program with dietitian-led counseling. This latter program, supported by in-clinic pantries and mobile markets, formed the basis for their evaluation through the Rooted in Evidence collaboration.
Through partnerships with food and medical providers, the Prescriptive Nutrition Program helped clients redeem produce prescriptions for free healthy food at onsite “food farmacies,” mobile markets and certified pantries within a network of 300 agencies.
The Rooted in Evidence Food Bank Program gave Feeding Northeast Florida team members the opportunity to build data literacy, which facilitated the beginnings of culture change. The partnership with the Center for Nutrition & Health Impact was instrumental leveraging data across Feeding Northeast Florida to better analyze the efforts and impacts across departments.
