Food Story
Akin has always believed a good diet is the cornerstone of health and as such believes all people should have access to fresh, nourishing food. She enjoys learning/thinking about food environments and food systems, and their impact on diet-related behaviors. Growing up in central Georgia, Akin had the fortune of living with parents who prioritized family meals and a grandfather who took great pride in his home garden, both of which shaped her relationship to food. She loves watching cooking shows, trying new recipes and preparing meals for the people she loves. In college, Akin worked at a smoothie shop and can still whip up a mean smoothie for meals or snacks. Her toddler really appreciates this skill.
