Food Story
Ogaki grew up in Japan, a country where food and nutrition education is promoted and emphasized as a national policy. Food has been always the center of family and community gatherings and basic school activities, such as school lunch, school gardens, home economics classes and school events. As a person who has spontaneously learned cooking skills and eating balanced in that environment, Ogaki was shocked to learn that having these basic life skills and accessibility to eating balanced diet is a privilege in the United States when she worked with underserved communities in Seattle, Washington.
Since then, she has been fighting for creating environments in the U.S. and beyond where all people can learn basic cooking skills and have accessibility to eat healthy, balanced diets from young age.
