Food Story

Marta became enamored with public health research as an undergraduate when a professor included her in a research team at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Around the same time, she became deeply involved with the disability and accessibility justice movement and was fascinated by the intersection of nutrition and chronic disease. Marta’s professional and educational goals then shifted, and while at Johns Hopkins University pursuing her master’s degree in nutrition, she focused on addressing nutrition equity concentrating on chronic disease and disability management and prevention. Marta currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland, with her husband where she can often be found educating her cat on the non-nutritive status of plastic wrappers and paying tribute to her Italian heritage in the kitchen.
