2024 NIDDK's Network of Minority Health Research Investigators (NMRI) Annual Workshop
2024 National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases’ (NIDDK) Network of Minority Health Research Investigators (NMRI) Annual Workshop • April 16-19, Bethesda, Maryland
Attendees: WIC Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Mayra Crespo-Bellido
Main takeaways and highlights: Dr. Crespo-Bellido, a Scholar of the COURAGE Program, which is part of the BRIDGES consortium, was invited to attend the NMRI workshop to network, learn about career advancement, and for the scholarly exchange between researchers from diverse backgrounds in diabetes, obesity and nutrition research.
A diverse, equitable and inclusive science workforce does not happen by accident. Fostering the development of scientists from underrepresented backgrounds requires intentional efforts, strategy and financial investment to offset the structural barriers we face daily. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases’ (NIDDK) investment in the Network of Minority Researchers and additional strategic planning shows the roadmap for institutions to continue working to give ALL scientists the tools they need to succeed.
