Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER) Annual Meeting

June 18-21, Austin, Texas

Attendees: Graduate Research Assistant Sueny Paloma Lima Dos Santos

Overview: This annual meeting provides a vibrant platform for epidemiology professionals and researchers to advance the field by sharing their latest findings, discussing innovative methodologies and networking with peers.

Presentation: Assessing Maternal and Infant Health in Latino Populations Through Secondary Data Analysis

Main takeaways and highlights: Presenting her latest research at the 2024 SER annual meeting was a significant achievement for Graduate Research Assistant Sueny Paloma Lima Dos Santos. Her abstract explored complex health concerns by synthesizing data from multiple population-data sources. Key findings included the relationship between the quality of antenatal care and pre-pregnancy folic acid intake in Guatemala, the role of pre-pregnancy BMI on breastfeeding duration among Hispanic mothers in the United States and the mediating role of diet quality in the relationship between food insecurity and obesity among Hispanic children and adolescents. Networking with leading researchers and attending workshops on causal inference, data linkage using electronic health records (EHR), and Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) provided valuable insights and potential collaborations, making this event pivotal for Lima Dos Santos’ academic and professional development.
